Here’s my Top 5 tips for newly engaged couples:
1. Enjoy your Engagement
Sit back for a while and enjoy your engagement. I’ve seen couples rush straight into the wedding planning and they don’t even get a chance to revel in the fact that they have found their soulmate, the person they will spend the rest of their lives with. (I’m getting uncharacteristically soppy here so I’ll stop!)
2. Put a Ring on it
This is one of the most important things to do when you are newly engaged. Once you feel ready, sit down and talk to each other (without anyone else) about what sort of day you imagine your wedding day to be, the feel, who you want to be there to celebrate with you, your budget and where you might like all this to happen. It could be a small rustic marquee wedding that you dream of or a large black tie event at a country house estate. You can get married up a mountain, in a forest or on a beach. The main thing is that you both agree on what you want from the start.
Each bride & groom will place a different emphasis on whats important to them. It’s essential to prioritise what’s important to you. Is it the food, the music, the flowers or perhaps the photographs (I’m biased of course!) You might want to check out a few venues and sample some food and drink (any excuse for a weekend away!) Once you’ve decided on your venue and set a date it’s important to choreograph all the suppliers that you want. Bands and photographers book quickest as they can usually only do one wedding a day. With a trend for shorter engagements it’s important to get these things booked early so you can relax and take a breather.
You may even consider a Just us session with your photographer to mark your engagement and get some beautiful photographs of this special time. It may also help you to relax in front of the camera.
