I was recently asked to do a creative styled shoot to launch the new work and website of contemporary Irish jewellery designer Jill Graham. Her work is unique, unpretentious and organic and we wanted to reflect this in the photographs by using a soft colour palette and natural materials. Coming from a jewellery design background myself I appreciate the work that goes into each piece that Jill crafts and how a beautiful piece of jewellery can change the look of any outfit and, indeed, how we feel wearing it.
What’s the inspiration for your work?
My fascination of organic structure is used to inform my unqiue jewellery pieces. Strong, bold shapes stress the qualities of the inclusions of texture and form. I draw inspiration from surface treatment of nature and elements of plant life where patterns made can make the most beautiful designs. From conception, the jewellery is minimal and fundamental. However, through the construction process, complexity is built in to the piece from layering and mixing precious metals.
Do you make bespoke/personalised wedding jewellery?
Yes I do, I have made many pieces in my 12 year of business from engagement rings, to lapel pins for the G8 world Leaders
What advice would you give a bride when choosing her jewellery for her wedding day?
What’s your favourite piece in the range?
This changes as of course I love them all, But I am really in love with my new Bloom Collection at the mo in particular the large Bloom pendant with little free moving blooms of silver and rich 22ct Gold, on a textured silver dome giving a truly organic feel.
What has been your biggest commission to date?
I was commissioned by 10 Downing Street, David Cameron in 2013 to made 10 Lapel Pins for the world Leader at the 8G summit in Fermanagh. This was amazing to be part of and to top it off I got a private meeting with David to present him with his own Lapel pin. It is just mad to think that the world leaders have all a piece of my Jewellery.
Where can we buy your pieces?
I stock selected Galleries and shops over Ireland and the UK and of course you can buy all my collections on my website www.jillgraham.co.uk
How do you balance being a mumtrepreneur?
Big thanks to Jill for taking the time to chat with me and our gorgeous model Collette O’Neill (CMPR agencies) who is also a mumtrepreneur . Girls don’t forget to drop the hints to your other half that it is customary for the groom to buy the bride a bespoke piece of wedding jewellery for your wedding day! (I made that custom up but it seems to work!)
