365 Weddings Later

With the launch of my new website and the start of my blog comes some nostalgia. It’s only when I had to sort through hard drive upon hard drive to get photographs for the website that I actually realize how many weddings I have shot! It’s only when a bride came into the studio for family photographs and casually mentions that it’s her 9th wedding anniversary next week that I realize how long I have been doing this! You never forget your first bride!

It’s been Hard Work

It’s been hard work, any photographer will tell you that. However I really feel that my business in nurturing me now, especially since the birth of my son ‘Henry’ who, needless to say, takes up a lot of my time!! I appreciate the flexible working hours and not having to answer to anyone, except myself at times!! Yes, we can be a self critical bunch at times, us photographers!!

So let me take you back 9 years, I was young & fearless, with no responsibilities, except a Ford Fiesta and some rented accommodation!! My first two weddings were just a day apart! Talk about being thrown in at the deep end.

364 Weddings, 11 homes, 4 cars, a camper van, a patient boyfriend, a baby boy, one crazy hair do and a surfboard later here I am.

Anyway, I survived, thrived and grew as a photographer and a person, now, 364 Weddings, 11 homes, 4 cars, a camper van, a patient boyfriend, a baby boy, one crazy hair do and a surfboard later here I am.

Now, the question is… should I go back to blonde?

Hi Sarah, Loved reading this article and flicking through all those images – what a journey you have been on and still going strong! Keep on creating beautiful, personal, storytelling photographs – they will turn up in many family heirlooms, add visuals to family trees and generations from now, are bound to show up on ‘Who do you think you are!’ Love Jules xx

    Hi Sarah,
I hope this finds you well 🙂 I love your work and photographic style, and find it very inspiring!
If you were to go back to the start, knowing what you know now, what advice would you give yourself?
I’ve recently graduated from uni with a photography degree and I’m starting a business, but I’m finding it difficult to get going, to make that first contact with potential clients; so I was wondering if you have any advice for newbies entering the photography business?
    Many Thanks, Claire.

Hi Claire. I think you will best learn from experience. I like to keep excited about what I do by investing in training workshops each year. There’s a lot of hard work involved. Stay true to what you want to photograph and this will also help you develop a style that will be unique to you and differentiate you from your competition. I hope this helps and best of luck with everything- it’s a beautiful journey. x
